Canada Stamp #2835 – In Flanders Fields (2015) P
Celebrate the 100th anniversary of the best-known war and remembrance poem of all time. “In Flanders Fields” was written by brigade-surgeon, Lt. Colonel John McCrae as a tribute to his lost comrade and war heroes world-wide. Born in Guelph, Ontario, Canada, Lt. Col. McCrae drafted the poem during the 2nd Battle of Ypres in Belgium. The pane design combines a hand-scripted image of the entire poem and a row of 5 stamp images featuring a soldier’s silhouette and shadowed crosses against a red poppy. The poppy became a symbol of sacrifices made by those who fought in the war. The poem is recited at Remembrance Day ceremonies around the world. It’s an historical keepsake for collectors!
